A customer fills the cart. They reach checkout. And then they leave. Often the reason is simple: the delivery does not suit them. In Bulgaria that almost always means three names - Еконт, Спиди and BoxNow. Pick the right ones and connect them well, and you sell more. Here is how each works, and how to plug them into your store.
Expensive or limited delivery is the #1 reason shoppers abandon their cart - 39% of cases
On average 70% of carts are abandoned, and the top reason is delivery: too expensive or with too few options (Baymard Institute, 2026). The couriers you offer are not a detail. They directly decide whether the sale happens.
Why does delivery decide the sale?
Because the checkout is where most sales are lost. On average 70% of online carts are abandoned (Baymard Institute, 2026). The top reason is extra costs that are too high - shipping, taxes and fees - in 39% of cases. The second is delivery that is too slow, at 21%. Both are about the courier.

The takeaway is short. Good delivery options keep more carts alive. For the bigger picture on turning visits into orders, see our guide on what conversion is.
Who are the three couriers and how do they differ?
Each one covers a different need. Econt has the widest reach with over 1,000 offices across the country (Econt, 2026). Speedy has more than 1,200 points - offices and lockers combined - with 100% territory coverage (Speedy, 2026). BoxNow is the locker specialist: over 750 automated lockers, open 24/7, with a target of 1,250 by the end of 2026 (Money.bg, 2026).
Еконт
The biggest network and the strongest in smaller towns. Best for the widest reach and customers who like collecting from an office.
Спиди
Full coverage with a fast-growing mix of offices and lockers. Part of the DPD/Geopost group, strong for fast and cross-border delivery.
BoxNow
Lockers only, 24/7, around two working days. Cheap and convenient for younger, urban customers who do not want to wait for a courier.
| Criterion | Еконт | Спиди | BoxNow |
|---|---|---|---|
| Model | Office, locker, to-door | Office, locker, to-door | Locker to locker |
| Network in Bulgaria | 1,000+ offices | 1,200+ points | 750+ lockers |
| Cash on delivery | Yes | Yes | Yes (card via link) |
| Open and test | Yes | Yes | No |
| Best for | Widest reach | Fast delivery | Low-cost lockers |
One more thing worth knowing. In April 2026 Econt began phasing out to-door delivery in many small settlements, pushing customers toward offices and lockers (Econt, 2026). The whole market is moving the same way: away from waiting at home, toward pickup points.
How does cash on delivery work with each one?
Cash on delivery is the customer paying when the parcel arrives, not in advance. In Bulgaria it is not optional - 92.9% of online stores offer it (Digipay, 2026). Many buyers still will not order without it. So how you handle it matters a lot.
- Econt and Speedy. Both take the money from the customer and transfer it to your bank account. The integration tracks which order is paid. The "open and test" option lets the customer check the parcel before paying, which builds trust.
- BoxNow. No cash changes hands at the locker. The customer pays by card through a link sent by email, SMS or Viber. It still counts as cash on delivery for the buyer, just cashless. Cleaner for you, modern for them.
Cash on delivery is only one side of getting paid. For cards, myPOS, Stripe and the real fees, see our guide on how to accept payments in an online store.
Good to know
A good integration marks an order as paid automatically when the courier transfers the money. No manual checking of bank statements, no guessing who paid.
Why are lockers becoming so important?
Because that is where shoppers are heading. In 2025, 46% of regular online shoppers in Europe preferred out-of-home delivery - to an office or a locker (Geopost E-Shopper Barometer, 2025). The survey covered 30,700 shoppers across 22 countries. Lockers alone jumped from 23% to 27% preference and are now the second most popular delivery option.

There is a reason. Lockers are open 24/7, so people pick up after work with no queue and no waiting at home. They are usually cheaper too, and that makes sense: one courier handles 700 to 800 locker parcels a day, against 60 to 100 delivered to the door (Money.bg, 2026). For a small store, offering a locker option is a quiet way to win the customers who hate waiting for a courier.
How does the integration actually work?
Integration means your store talks to the courier directly, without you copying anything by hand. All three offer ready modules for the popular platforms - WooCommerce, OpenCart, Magento, PrestaShop, Shopify and CloudCart - plus an API for a custom store (Econt, Speedy, BoxNow, 2026). Here is what it gives you:
- Office and locker picker at checkout. The customer chooses the exact office or locker from a map, right in the cart. No typing a wrong address.
- Automatic shipping price. The delivery cost is calculated live based on weight and destination, so the customer sees the real price before paying.
- One-click shipping label. You generate the waybill straight from the order. No retyping names, phones and addresses into the courier site.
- Automatic tracking. The customer gets a tracking number automatically and can follow the parcel, which cuts "where is my order" messages.
On a ready platform a basic module can be set up quickly. A custom store or special logic (mixed couriers, rules by region, free shipping over a threshold) is built through the API. If you are still choosing a platform, our guide to e-commerce store development walks through the options.
Which courier should I choose for my store?
Short answer: do not choose just one. Offer at least two. Remember, limited delivery is the top reason carts get abandoned - 39% of cases (Baymard Institute, 2026). Different customers want different things, and a single courier never fits everyone. A simple, safe setup looks like this:
- Econt or Speedy as the base. One of the two big networks covers the whole country and handles cash on delivery for the customers who still rely on it.
- BoxNow as the cheap, modern option. Add lockers for younger, urban buyers who want 24/7 pickup and a lower delivery price.
- Match it to what you sell. Heavy or fragile goods lean toward office and to-door delivery. Small, light products are perfect for lockers.
From our experience: ElectroBoys with no plugins
This is not just theory for us. For ElectroBoys, an online store with over 5,000 electrical products, we connected eight external integrations - couriers and payments among them - directly through their APIs, without ready plugins. Why the harder route? On a big custom store, the API gives full control: shipping rules by region, clean order status, and speed that a stack of plugins would drag down.
The result was a store that loads fast and handles delivery without manual work. You can see the full project in our ElectroBoys case study. Speed matters here too - see why in our guide on how to speed up your site.
Common mistakes to avoid
A few small slips quietly cost sales. They are easy to fix once you know them:
- Offering only one courier. You lose every customer who does not have that courier nearby. At least two options is the safe floor.
- Hiding the shipping price until the end. A surprise cost at the last step is the top abandonment trigger (Baymard, 2026). Show the real price early.
- No cash on delivery. Skipping it shuts out a large share of Bulgarian buyers who still expect to pay on arrival (Digipay, 2026).
- Manual waybills. Typing each label by hand wastes time and creates errors. The whole point of integration is to remove that step.
Get the delivery setup right and it quietly works in the background, sale after sale. If you want it built and connected properly, that is exactly what we do in our e-commerce store development service.
